Frequently Asked Questions

Age & Health

The minimum age for a tandem skydive is 14 years and for the Accelerated Freefall Course is 16 years. Anyone under 18 years will require parent or guardian consent. The maximum age is as old as you dare subject to our health restrictions.

You do not need a Doctor's certificate to skydive, however if you are over 60 years old or have any medical condition, we require one before you can jump.

You need to be in reasonable health to ensure a fun safe experience and we do reserve the right to refuse a skydive based on age, weight and health. If you have any particular needs or questions please contact us to discuss.

Size and weight limitations

The maximum weight for tandem skydive or parachute flight is 100kg but in some circumstances, we can go to 110 kg but may need to wait for the right weather conditions, and there is surcharge for anyone over 90kg. Conditions will apply to anyone over 85kg (please see the height/weight chart below) and we will need your age, height and general fitness

For the AFF Freefall course, our maximum weight is 110kg. Conditions will apply to anyone over 95kg. In addition, we may need to wait for the right weather conditions. If you have any questions or needs please contact us to discuss.

See Height and weight Chart.

Clothing

Loose, comfortable clothing is best. When the harness is tightened, tight clothing such as jeans can be uncomfortable. Less bulky clothing is best. Shoes should be of the 'runner' or 'sand shoe' variety, preferably without a heel. Please no bulky boots with hooks. Dress as you would for the weather on the ground.

Which jump should I do?

Completing any skydive is a great achievement and will be the most thrilling thing you will ever do. Just remember that all jumps give you the same freefall and the same parachute ride (parachute flights excepted).

The major difference with the AFF jump is that you and you alone are responsible for all safety procedures and emergency procedures. The two jumpmasters who accompany you are there to observe your jump and although they are holding onto you during the freefall they cannot fix any problems or do the skydive for you - it will require 150% of your undivided attention. A Tandem jump you will have an instructor there to look after all procedures at all times while you relax and enjoy the jump. If you pay attention during your AFF course and are happy to take on the responsibility then you will have a great time and enjoy the jump, but you must be aware of the responsibility that you are taking on.

If you are in doubt, why not try a Tandem jump to see if you would like to pursue the AFF course, if you return within 3 months, we will offer you a discount on the AFF course. The Tandem is a great introduction to skydiving and allows you to experience 40 seconds of freefall and then steer the parachute under the guidance of an instructor.

How long will it take?

When you make a booking you are given a time, this is your arrival time NOT your jump time. We advise that you arrive with no time constraints and keep at least a 1/2 day free from your arrival at the skydiving centre.

On arrival, you will complete some paperwork and pay the balance of the jump cost. You can then relax around the BBQ picnic area, watch other first time jumpers as they land in front of the BBQ area or grab a bite to eat from the food we have on offer.

A Tandem jump involves a 20 minute briefing and gear up after which you will board the aircraft for the 25 min ride to 10,000feet.
After completing your mid week training, AFF jumpers will arrive at the Drop Zone on the day of their jump and report to the Manifest Office.

You will then hear your name called out, go to the gear up area to meet your Jump Masters and gear up. You will complete a dress rehearsal of the jump and demonstrate all the training to your AFF Instructors prior to boarding the aircraft. If your AFF Instructors are not satisfied, you are unable to answer any of their questions on your previous training, or you are not comfortable doing the jump solo, you will be required to complete a Tandem jump.

What if the weather is bad?

Often it can be bad weather at home, but at the Drop Zone, the weather can be great, or the reverse can happen. The reason we ask you to keep a half-day free from your arrival is also to allow for any weather on the day. As soon as the weather improves, we start jumping again. It is not often that we are unable to complete your jump. If you are unable to complete your jump due to weather, you can rebook your jump to another day of your choice and you do not lose your deposit. Deposits are valid for 1 year.

We can jump in up to 25 knots of wind, however this is subject to turbulent and gusty conditions. Low, thick complete cloud cover and heavy rain will also stop us jumping. Weather conditions in which we will jump are subject to the discretion of the Drop Zone Safety Officer.
